Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS)

The Family Self-Sufficiency Program (FSS) is available to those who desire economic independence while pursuing the goal of homeownership. The program encourages communities to develop local strategies to help voucher families obtain employment that will lead to economic independence and self-sufficiency.  For example, you may need additional job/education training to advance on the job market or for advancement on your current job. While participating in the FSS program, you may, at the same time, go through the homeownership training program.

FSS program services may include, but are not limited to:

  • child care
  • transportation
  • education
  • job training and employment counseling
  • substance/alcohol abuse treatment or counseling
  • household skill training
  • homeownership counseling

While participation in the FSS program is not mandatory, it may help you reach the income guidelines necessary to become a successful homeowner.
